R.I.P. Lemmy
You talk about drinking icons, this guy was at the top of the list. Lemmy Kilmister was not only the age-defying frontman of the legendary hard rock band Motörhead, he was a guy who claimed to have consumed a bottle of Jack Daniels every day since his 30th birthday (although he admitted switching over to vodka earlier this year for health reasons). I definitely had Lemmy pegged on my shortlist for a D2D Interview in 2016. In the interviews and documentaries I've consumed over the years Lemmy has had more incredible stories about drinking than just about anyone. Besides the association with whiskey and the fast lane, Motörhead's music has always epitomized the live-fast, die-young mentality—the idea that life's numerous responsibilities can wait until tomorrow because we're living in the moment and the moment is grand. I once read a quote where Lemmy said, "If I died tomorrow, I couldn't complain. It's been good."
That's where I hope to get to one day—secure in the knowledge that I have truly lived and can rest easy in that understanding. You did it, Lemmy. We should all be so lucky.
