Day Drinking with David: Capurro Pisco
Woman. Latina. Immigrant. Mother. Entrepreneur. Founder. Distiller. Buzzwords out of the way, Romina Scheufele is a story of irrepressible determination, not to be defined by origins, but by journey and destination.
Her family fled their home fearing violence during the rise of the Shining Path in Perú, immigrating to the San Francisco Bay Area. From wandering the vineyards as a child to living a world apart, the bond with her grandfather remained. Generations of shared agriculture and the art of producing pisco pulsed through Romina. She made a promise to her grandfather, Eduardo Castro Capurro, to bring the family’s craft to the Untied States, ultimately going one step further by becoming the first female distiller of Capurro pisco, the fifth generation of her family’s pisco.
