March 1st is here and so is the new “Ardbeg Committee Release.” The precursor to the wider release in June, the Committee Release is full blown cask strength goodness. The Drum, is a scrumptious whisky showcase of peat smoke and fruit. Aged first in ex-bourbon casks and finished in Caribbean Rum barrels, the Drum is one of the most unique and flavorful Ardbeg’s in years.

The dominant peat smoke takes a turn towards the sweet and tropical. The label says it all: “A flamboyant jamboree of flavours, with fragrant pine resin, woodsmoke and seaspray dancing alongside ripe banana and pineapple. Lavender, liquorice and vanilla sway into rich dark chocolate, before parading into a long, smoky finish.” 52% ABV and packing a serious punch, this Drum Dram is one for the collection.
